Why Natural Oils are Important for your Hair

Posted by TASHA GARCIA on

Natural oils are so important for your hair. When I ask people if they use oils on their hair they say absolutely not. I think the concept of using oils have many people confused. I have also heard people say I put nothing on my hair. That leaves me puzzled and it's also mind boggling. I know firsthand that natural oils are the best thing you can do for your hair, especially if it’s dry or curly. The benefits of natural oils go beyond measure.

Oily Hair:

There are so many myths as to why people don't use oils on their hair. I have heard people say because their hair is oily. Did you know that there are dry oils? Yes you heard right, dry oils. I have read many studies that say that dry oils are amazing for people with oily hair. Remember everything should be done in moderation! Some of the most popular dry oils are avocado, borage, rosehip seed, squalene, evening primrose, sesame, grapeseed, safflower, camelina, and sunflower.

It's ok to do hot oil treatments on your oily hair, you can do the treatment on your unwashed and dry hair. I always tell my customers that if their scalp is extremely oily, to add any treatment 2-3 inches away from their scalp. After the treatment is done massage and rinse with a lot of water. Our Wonder Mist is perfect for the customers who have oily hair, it is extremely light weight, but packed with everything you need.

Curly Hair:

Curly hair is known for it's dryness, oils are a major key and plays a big role in your hair regimen. Dry curly hair usually has frizz, lack of shine, brittle hair, and even split ends. Your curl issues can be resolved with the right oil. For some reason curly hair tends to hold less hydration. The lack of hydration causes frizz, dryness, making hair look dull and brittle, which leads to more split ends. All of this stems from your curl pattern, not a natural inclination that you have for drier hair. The oils produced on your scalp (a.k.a. sebum), are what hydrate hair, adding shine, decreasing frizz, and giving it strength. Using hot oil treatments and an oil based finishing product (like our Finishing Serum) will restore the moisture your hair is missing.

Dry Hair:

Let's face it we all know that managing dry hair can be a tedious process. Most people hate wash day. You can easily get your locks back to their original luster with hair treatments using our Hot Oil Blend or Miracle Oil. Let’s take a look at a few natural oils. Let's get you started on your journey to moisturized, silky and luscious tresses!

Benefits of Natural Oils:

Pistachio Oil
Pistachio oil contains vitamin K and healthy amounts of biotin. They can help promote hair health and lead to strong hair growth when included in your regimen. Massaging your hair and scalp with pistachio oil will also provide the same hair strengthening benefits. It's also amazing for hair repair.
Coconut oil
Use coconut oil as a natural way to help your hair grow longer, thicker, and faster. The vitamins and essential fatty acids naturally found in coconut oil nourish the scalp and help to remove sebum build-up from hair follicles. Coconut oil is also great for dandruff and moisture.
Avocado oil
Avocados have natural humectant properties that lock in moisture and it also acts like a natural SPF. Avocado is rich in vitamins B and E, which helps strengthen and hair loss. Avocado oil will help stimulate blood flow and unclog blocked follicles.
Jamaican Castor Oil
It will moisturize, thicken, strengthen and rapidly increase hair growth. It increases blood flow to the scalp, supplying valuable nutrients to hair follicles. Jamaican black castor oil will also prevent hair breakages, dandruff, eczema and dry, itchy scalp
Olive Oil
Using olive oil for hair growth can help you get long and thicker hair faster. It has several benefits repairing the damaged hair, Applying olive oil to your scalp will help to prevent dandruff, fungus, and other scalp issues that lead to dry, flaky skin.

Almond Oil
Almond is another great way to lock in moisture. It’s high in Omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids, vitamin E, and magnesium, It will help make your hair stronger, prevent hair loss and boost shine. Using almond oil nourishes and strengthens your hair, and is optimal for treating hair loss and damaged hair. A few drops go a long way to add silkiness and shine & nourish the scalp.
Argan Oil
It is extremely beneficial for hair and scalp, and is commonly used as a conditioner. Vitamin E is extremely beneficial for hair, and is found in argan oil in high quantities. It can act as a moisturizer for the scalp to fight dandruff and dry scalp.
When purchasing natural oils make sure to look at the ingredients. Why do I say this, because most brands that have cheap prices usually put mineral oil in their products. Mineral oil clogs up your hair shaft not allowing it to breath. The products will say it's natural, but only have .00001% of the actual natural oil (such as avocado oil for example). Think about what are you really getting at that percentage from the natural oil nothing. In order to get the benefits from natural oils it has to be a good percent and all natural.
  • Use all natural oils
  • Do weekly or bi-weekly hot oil treatments
  • Make sure to read ingredients and do your research
  • Using a Hair Steamer will give your hair the maximum results
